Why Choose the Flow of Life Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training?

  • Fact-based, inclusive childbirth education: Our course will include childbirth education that is designed to give yoga teachers access to accurate and up to date information about childbirth.
  • Community: Throughout the Flow of Life training, trainees will feel the value of community. We believe that strong communities lead to healthy pregnancies and families. This training will demonstrate how to hold spaces for people in all stages of pregnancy.
  • Functional Movement Practice: We approach yoga asanas based on functional anatomy. Our trainees will learn:
    • Why some asanas are beneficial for pregnancy
    • Why some asanas are not beneficial for pregnancy
    • How to alleviate common pregnancy aches and pains
    • Pelvic Floor health
    • Tools to relieve discomfort and develop coping skills
"A lot of my trainings have offered SO much knowledge, but less on how to structure a class. . . . [This training was] informative, engaging, well-structured, dynamic, and PRACTICAL."

Overview: Pregnancy is a beautiful time to connect to the body. It is a great time to build a relationship with one’s pelvis, pelvic floor and the movement of the hips. Students often discover information about their anatomy that they did not know before they were pregnant! Functional movement looks at “real-life” movement. We focus heavily on the alignment of the pelvis and how the rest of the body can find alignment when the pelvis is in a neutral position.

Module 10: Quadraped Poses

Overview Prenatal yoga is recommended by many Midwives and OB’s as safe exercise during pregnancy. For that reason, many students will have practiced very little yoga before prenatal yoga. We want to encourage bodily autonomy, meaning everyone is making decisions about their own physical self. We will encourage students to check in with how they are feeling in their bodies and in their practice.

Overview: Functional movement helps keep pregnant students out of pain! It also helps our students to connect with their bodies so they can thrive during labor, birth and parenthood. Encouraging functional movement can take several forms:

  • Adapting typical asanas so they are more suitable for the pregnant body.

  • Studying, learning and understanding posture so you can help students find a sustainable, strong posture.

  • Encouraging evidenced based movements, such as potty squats and pelvic tilts.
